1. The causes of cracks are mainly as follows:

01. Reflection cracks caused by cracks in road surface and subgrade


Cracks caused by expansion or contraction of pavement and subgrade materials, or cracks caused by uneven settlement, etc. cause cracks in pavement marking. Under normal circumstances, it can not be avoided, only by strengthening the construction quality of road surface and subgrade, as far as possible to reduce the occurrence of cracks.


02. Soft pavement cracks.


The main reason is that paint and pavement soft and hard degree does not match. The temperature is very high in Summer, some places can reach 40℃, and for asphalt pavement,  high temperature can reach 60℃ or more, asphalt is soft under high temperature, and coating film is relatively hard, it may produce soft pavement crack under the wheel impact load.


03. Marking aging appear cracks.


The deterioration of coating surface material and natural weathering make the line crack. Aging crack is also due to the long-term exposure of marking paint on the road surface, subjected to seasonal change, sun and rain, temperature difference between day and night and other changes, suffered from periodic expansion and contraction. For the cracks caused by aging, we can only choose the appropriate paint for the local climate environment to prevent the coating from aging cracks in advance, and at the same time, the temperature is strictly controlled in the construction of the line.

04. Construction in Winter or The environment temperature is too low may also lead to cracks while Hot applied thermoplastic road marking paint is under construction.

Hot melt coating encounter cold curing, if the road surface temperature is too low, the coating cold shrinkage produces excessive internal stress, more than the toughness of the coating should be easy to crack. This is related to the construction season and paint performance, but also to the condition of the road surface. Especially the newly laid cement pavement has fragile mortar layer, or curing film, easy to crack.


2.The main way to effectively prevent cracks generating.


01. Try to avoid the construction in winter or cold environment.
02. Attention should be paid to the reasonable selection of hot melt road marking paint, different seasons to choose applicable the formula of paint.
03. The newly laid road surface has two weeks of maintenance time at least, especially for the cement road surface, the fragile mortar layer or maintenance film on the road surface should be cleaned before the road marking construction.
