Common shape and meaning of road marking line

In the course of daily driving, there will be different lines on the road. Herein,   we will briefly introduces some common shapes and meanings of road marking line. 

White solid line, dotted line

In generally, white lines are the most common line on highway road and urban road. White lines are used to separate vehicles traveling in the same direction. The driver can across dotted line to change traveling lane, while solid lines are not allowed to be acrossed.

Single or double yellow solid lines

The yellow solid line is used to separate vehicles going in different directions. It is generally in the middle of the road. The double yellow solid line is usually on the road with many traffic lanes, and the single yellow solid line is usually on the road with few traffic lance. Vehicles are not allowed to cross either single or double yellow solid lines.

Yellow dotted line

The yellow dotted line is used to separate vehicles going in different directions. It is usually located in the middle of a narrow road, and the yellow dotted line allows vehicles to cross on the condition of ensuring the safety of oneself and passing vehicles.

Deceleration warning line

It has a variety of styles in different countries and regions, generally is set at the intersection, crosswalk and other places, alerting vehicles to slow down.

Guide line

Guide line is also called as the diversion line, which is set at the intersection, ramp, etc., to guide the vehicle to drive in accordance with the prescribed line, the vehicle is prohibited to pressure the diversion line, diversion line area is also a no-stop zone.

Arrow guide line

Arrow guide lines are relatively common and are used to direct vehicles to the prescribed lane, with penalties for not following them.

Parking prohibition

No-parking lines are yellow reticulated stripes, usually placed in important departments, schools, etc., that prohibit vehicles from stopping there, either temporarily or at traffic lights.

Numerical marking

The numerical marking on the road is generally the requirement of vehicle speed. The white number indicates the minimum speed limit and the yellow number indicates the maximum speed limit.
