DP World, Dubai's state-owned ports operator, has reportedly signed a partnership with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to develop a deep-sea port on Banana Island.

 

The scope of the project includes the construction of a terminal initially 600 metres in length with a draft depth of 18 metres.

 

The port will have a container handling capacity of about 450,000 TEUS per year, as well as a 300,000-square-meter container yard.

 

According to a DP World press release, with the project expected to start within 12 months.
